Summer Internship - ACLUF Speech, Privacy & Technology

Description: INTERNSHIP OVERVIEW The undergraduate summer internship is designed to provide interns with the opportunity to learn about public interest work as it relates to the issues on which the Speech, Privacy, and Technology Project focuses. The internship typically requires a 10 week commitment, is full-time and has a preferred start date of June 1, 2015. ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Interns will gain valuable experience by working with the SPT team on a wide variety of issues. Interns will work under the direct supervision of the project’s Paralegal. Work may include: • Conducting factual and legal research on issues relating to free speech, privacy and technology. • Preparation, production and development of litigation and advocacy materials. • Drafting documents for the project’s Free Future blog. • Conducting research on Freedom of Information Act request projects. • Attend meetings to gain firsthand knowledge of active cases and advocacy projects • Litigation and advocacy projects. • Assisting with the maintenance of case files. • Propose independent research projects relating to free speech, privacy and technology • Other projects as assigned.

Special Skills & Requirements DESIRED EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS The internship is open to students who have completed their first year of college. Applications from individuals with a demonstrated interest in social justice and learning more about freedom of speech and privacy issues relating to the use of technology, government surveillance and the intersection between policy and technology will be favored. Applicants should possess: • Excellent research, writing and communications skills. • Initiative to see projects through to completion. • Strong computer skills, particularly web-based research, including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (i.e. Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
