Faculty Biography - Helene Dunkelblau

Dr. Dunkelblau is an Associate Professor of English as a Second Language (ESL). Before coming to Queensborough, she taught graduate courses in second language methodology and bilingual/multicultural education at New York University and Shanghai Teachers University. Her current research interests are on reflective practice and its impact on reading instruction, and on the application of contemplative pedagogy to ESL instruction. Dr. Dunkelblau is the author of Reading and Writing from the Heart: Contemplative Passages and Reflective Exercises, a reading/writing text for ESL and developmental English students.  She facilitates the Contemplative Education Network at Queensborough and is a member of the CUNY Contemplatives, a group of educators from various CUNY campuses that plan conferences and other educational activities centered around mindfulness education.  Dr. Dunkelblau received her Ph.D. in (Chinese) Bilingual Education from New York University, has a Masters degree from Seton Hall University in Language Education, and a BA from the City College of New York in Asian Studies.
