Description: Habitat for Humanity New York City is looking for AmeriCorps members for the 2014-2015 year! AmeriCorps at Habitat NYC are our frontline builders and ensure a safe, productive, and enjoyable build experience for our volunteers. While serving, AmeriCorps members receive a $1200 per month living stipend and an educational grant award of $5,500 upon completion of their service, all while gaining hands-on training in construction skills and experience serving the community. This opportunity is for high school graduates 18 and older who are willing and able to commit to one year of service. AmeriCorps National members are able to continue with their education as long as classes do not conflict with the 40 hours per week of service.

|Special Skills & Requirements||Currently, we are looking for AmeriCorps to fill the following positions: 1. AmeriCorps National, Construction Crew Leader for A Brush With Kindness Program: The Brush With Kindness program partners with non-profit organizations and the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) to paint and revitalize community centers that serve thousands of people in local communities. ABWK Crew Leaders support the program by coordinating daily site activities including conducting volunteer orientation, safety demonstrations, and delivering educational information about affordable housing issues in NYC. ABWK crew leaders perform painting, minor construction, patch work, tiling, landscaping, gardening, or repair work. This role works primarily for the ABWK program, but may also be deployed on construction sites as needed. (2 positions available) 2. AmeriCorps National, Critical Home Repair Crew Leader: The Critical Home Repair program works on houses damaged by 2012's Hurricane Sandy, primarily on Staten Island but also in Brooklyn and Queens. Construction crew leaders perform basic demolition tasks, such as the removal of drywall, flooring, cabinets, or other common items, during rehabilitation or critical home repair projects. The Crew Leader promotes team building and provides guidance to volunteers. Construction Crew Leaders work with volunteers to build homes by demonstrating the skills required, providing safety, clean-up directions, and orientating the volunteers on our mission and goals. (3 positions available) 3. AmeriCorps National, General Construction Crew Leader: Habitat-NYC will rehabilitate dilapidated homes in Queens and start a new condominium project in Brooklyn this coming year. Construction Crew Leaders are responsible for coordinating site tasks and leading crews of skilled and unskilled volunteers and partner families, all while maintaining a safe and efficient work environment.
