Description: -Write media releases, print and online newsletters, emails to media professionals, letters to the editor, op-eds, and other documents as needed. -Write fact sheets, backgrounders, and position papers on AALDEF campaigns. -Work closely with the executive director and attorneys in crafting messages for press spokespeople. Recommend and develop new story angles and pitches for the media. -Manage AALDEF's website and online communications, including social media posts, action alerts, and other vehicles to engage constituencies and key audiences. -Develop and update media lists; monitor media coverage of AALDEF and Asian American issues.

Special Skills & Requirements -2+ years of print/online journalism or communications experience in a nonprofit organization. -Excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills, with attention to details and a commitment to quality control. -Demonstrated ability to operate in high-pressure situations with quick turnaround for written products. -Strong understanding of civil rights issues and the Asian American community. -Experience in managing websites. Knowledge of Movable Type, WordPress, and Photoshop preferred. -Ability to translate legal concepts into accessible language for press materials. -Ability to develop story angles in a creative manner, seize media opportunities, identify media trends, and successfully pitch and place stories. -Self-starter, with ability to manage multiple tasks to meet deadlines.
