Daomi Burch, Queensborough CC Basketball

Community College Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year

Written by: Melissa Blass, CUNYAC Sports Info

Daomi Burch embodies the qualities of an ideal student-athlete. She is driven, a team player, and a natural leader who gives as much effort in the classroom as she does on the basketball court. These characteristics have been the foundation of her past and present successes and will continue to guide her to future success. Earning a 3.53 GPA while majoring in Liberal Arts has created endless opportunities for Burch to take the next step forward in her academic and athletic careers.

The Queens native attended Benjamin Cardozo High School and planned to enroll at Louisiana State University after graduation. Unfortunately, Burch's mother became ill and she instead decided to attend Queensborough Community College so that she could live at home and take care of her mother. Head Coach David Chambers reached out to Daomi through her brother, Henry, who also attended QCC. Burch explained to Coach Chambers that she was not sure when or even if she would be able to participate. Coach Chambers assured his future captain, "Regardless of when you're ready, I will always have a place on the team for you."
