VIRTUAL CAMPUS

The VIRTUAL CAMPUS should provide a sense of "PLACE".  It should be the space through which all the services are provided and where the virtual students can "cross paths" as they will "see" the others on Bulletin Boards and blogs and see posted announcements of a variety of events in CUNY and NYC for college students and mature adults of this online program.

The online program would have the listing of classes and the online classes. The virtual campus would be a set of websites that connect the learners to one another and to CUNY.  It offers information in relation to the online program(s) and assistance available to students and social events and allows the space to socialize-discussion boards and blogs.

It would also be an idea to consider that the virtual campus provide students with virtual lockers and space for their educational E-Portfolios.

1) Information on online program(s) offered centrally and at the various campuses

2) Assistance available to students including:

  • a) financial aid
  • b) counseling
  • c) registration
  • d) remedial services
  • e) library services
  • f) tutoring
  • g) mentoring students

3) Information on social events and extra curricular activities that are offered via :

  • website
  • CUNY campuses
  • New York City

4) Virtual Social Space to socialize-discussion boards and blogs.

5) Virtual lockers for storage

6) E-portfolio space- related to the instructional program for the achievement of those objectives associated with such portfolios

Through the Virtual Campus the online program might assist to engender a feeling of "belonging" and "connectedness" to students whose backgrounds, expectations, gender, age, geography, etc. are so disparate.

Based on what occurs in that virtual space the program directors would learn of the interests and needs of the students and develop other services and activities to assist them with the instructional program and with the fostering and development of "community" with that feeling of "belonging" and "connectedness".
