Dean for Institutional Effectiveness
Dr. Reem A. Jaafar is the Dean for Institutional Effectiveness in the Office of Academic Affairs at Queensborough Community College.
With more than 15 years of experience in teaching, institutional effectiveness, assessment, and accreditation, Dr. Jaafar joined the College in January 2026.
Dr. Jaafar has a proven track record of leading initiatives such as the Middle States Self-Study, program assessment, faculty development, and cross-institutional collaboration. She joins us from LaGuardia Community College, where she served as a professor in the Department of Mathematics, Engineering, and Computer Science. She began her appointment at the College in 2010 and attained the rank of full professor in 2017.
While at Laguardia Community College, she demonstrated expertise in aligning institutional efforts with mission-driven goals, fostering inclusive, student-ready cultures through evidence-informed leadership. Notable accomplishments include co-chairing LaGuardia’s Self-Study for the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE), resulting in the college receiving commendations across multiple standards, and serving as a peer evaluator for MSCHE. Dr. Jaafar has also served as the Co-Director of the Shared Equity Leadership Project at LaGuardia and has been instrumental in leading equity-driven initiatives, including STEM education and faculty development projects supported by national grants.
Dr. Jaafar earned her Ph.D. in Physics at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York, her M.A. in Physics at City College, and her B.S. in Physics from the American University of Beirut in Lebanon.
