Take It From Us — Get Involved!

Published: November 05, 2025

"Take It From Us" is a collection of quotes from current and former Queensborough students highlighting their thoughts about various subject matter on or off-campus.

This time, they share their thoughts about getting involved in student activities.

Dylan Manchack, Part-time student at QCC, Computer Science and Information Security, Dual/Joint Degree Program with John Jay College of Criminal Justice

Meet Dylan, President of the Gaming Club

“I discovered the Gaming Club at QCC about four years ago. I was interested because I had been a gamer most of my life and wanted to join and help set up a community. We’re an approachable club and know that not everyone is an expert gamer. The tournaments are for everyone. In fact, new gamers sometimes win first or second place!”

Dylan, who also works part-time as a technician in the Office of Accessibility, lives in Queens.

He said, “Students come from all over to be at QCC-Long Island, New Jersey, and the Bronx. It wows me!”

Elijah Baksh, President of the Student Government Association (SGA), Health Sciences

Meet Elijah, newly elected President of the SGA

“Get involved now because college will go by in the blink of an eye. The people you meet in college may be your friends for life and will be there if you need help or a shoulder to lean on. If you want to get involved with student government or apply for a paid job on campus, people you’ve met and built relationships with over time can be an important connection. People who can vouch for your character will have you flying through life.”

Daneil Neil, Third Semester, Music Production

Meet Daneil, Member of the Queensborough Male Resource Center (MRC)

“I first learned about the MRC about two years ago from Jamal Briggs, [Director, Male Resource Center]. He explained all events at the center including activities in and out of QCC.

I was one of the first peer mentors at the MRC because I was familiar with QCC’s support systems as well as housing and transportation resources. But the MRC is a lot more than just peer support. We have amazing activities and events. My top three favorite events are Barbershop Day, the Talent Show-I play piano-and Karaoke. What’s important to know about the MRC is that it welcomes everyone, not just male students. Here, I’ve gained wisdom from my peers. It’s also just a great chill-out spot. Sometimes we play card games, listen to music, or just catch up with friends. Come by sometime!”

Guesnon Roeillard, Dec. 2025 Graduate, Business Administration

Meet Guesnon, Member of the Queensborough Male Resource Center (MRC)

“I remember there was an informational event in the quad, and that’s where I first learned about the MRC. I signed up then and there. First, I was a mentee and now I’m a Peer Mentor which gives me an interesting perspective as a student who had once been on the other side.

The first event I took part in was the Etiquette Dinner. Earlier that day I told myself, “Don’t just go home, check it out. And I met amazing people that day. The other event I love is the great free haircuts given at Barbershop Day. It’s first come, first serve, so get there early!
