Queensborough Community College Launches New Fully Online Computer Science A.S. Degree Program
QUEENSBOROUGH COMMUNITY COLLEGE LAUNCHES NEW FULLY ONLINE COMPUTER SCIENCE A.S. DEGREE PROGRAM, THE ONLY ONE OF ITS KIND AT CUNY
August 19, 2025 (Bayside, NY) -- Queensborough Community College of The City University of New York (CUNY) is pleased to announce the launch of a new Computer Science associate in science (A.S.) online degree program starting this fall. This program, the only one of its kind at CUNY, is available to all students but is tailored for working adults returning to college.
“Since our A.S. degree in Computer Science started in Fall 2023, it has quickly grown to over 200 students,” said Dean of Academic Initiatives Michael Pullin. “This new online option for the degree program will help us serve students for whom commuting to campus is difficult, including students who must work to support their families or have other personal obligations.”
He continued, “The Mathematics and Computer Science Department has done an excellent job of creating new, online versions of their courses for the program. I expect that students will enjoy the experience and thrive in the new program.”
Included in New York State’s new free community college program for adult learners, the Computer Science associate in science (A.S.) online degree program will be delivered online in an asynchronous format, providing students with the means to pursue a degree in a high-demand field with greater flexibility. Qualified students have two options to enroll in the program:
- New Queensborough students can either choose Computer Science AS – Online Program in the CUNY Freshman Application or a major degree program upon admission. Upon doing so, students should then select Computer Science AS – Online Program.
- Current Queensborough students can switch their major degree program to Computer Science online by speaking with their Academy Adviser or either of the Program Directors. To be eligible, current students must be in good academic standing and must not have already earned more than 30 college credits.

The need for computer scientists has seen a sharp increase over the past few decades as computers have become a necessity in our personal lives and the workplace.
Queensborough’s Computer Science program is designed to set students on track to meet this need, preparing them for transfer to a four-year college and earn a B.S. in Computer Science or a related field.
The A.S. degree in Computer Science is tailored to align well with the CUNY senior colleges that offer bachelor’s degrees in computer science, with the goal of providing students with programming skills required in today’s world of computing, including thinking critically and solving complex problems.
