Committee Meeting Dates and times

The Committee met at 12:10 p.m. on the following Wednesdays: September 11th, 2024, October 9th, 2024, December 4th, 2024, February 26th, 2025, April 9th, 2025, and May 14th, 2025

There was no quorum on the following scheduled meetings: November 13th, 2024, and March 15th, 2023.

  1. Review and evaluate summary reports describing initiatives to assess student learning from academic departments, academies, and academic programs of the college

    COMPLETED

    Committee members were assigned to review teaching departments' assessment reports. Members used rubrics established by the committee to score the reports; the rubrics with scores and comments were collected, and findings presented during the Spring semester meetings. 
    Teaching departments' assessment reports were scored as follows: 3 were exemplary, 1 was adequate, and 1 needed improvement; 9 were not submitted at the time of the assessment, and 1 report was not scored. The 2 program reports assessed had an exemplary score; 1 program report was not scored.

  2. Review and evaluate documents relating to assessments of institutional effectiveness from all non-academic units of the college

    COMPLETED

    Committee members were assigned to review sets of annual reports of non-academic units. Members used rubrics established by the committee to assess the reports. The scores were collected and discussed during the Fall semester meetings. Non-teaching departments' assessment reports were scored as follows: 12 were exemplary, 11 adequate, and 7 needed improvement; 8 were not submitted at the time of the assessment.

  3. Make annual reports of progress in assessment of data collection, including:
    1. The review of assessment reports from each department/unit of the college;
    2. Courses/college units assessed from each department;
    3. Summary of Assessment data gathered from assessments;
    4. Any departmental conclusions drawn and/or actions taken as a result.

  1. Review and evaluate assessment procedures the College undertakes and make recommendations concerning these assessment initiatives to the Academic Senate, in support of principles of shared governance, academic freedom, and transparency

    The committee read, discussed, and provided feedback on the General Education Report during the December 4th meeting.

Summary of actions not covered by above

Emails including feedback on the assessment reports submitted by the departments were sent to the Steering Committee, to be distributed to the Deans supervising the respective departments, to support the continuous improvement of assessment practices.

Committee recommendations for upcoming year

Recommendation to conduct reviews of the reports more efficiently: convert some of the committee meetings into working sessions, for new members to gain experience in how to assess the reports using the rubrics provided, and accelerate the review process.

Recommendation on how to gather information from the departments efficiently: organize workshop sessions/office hours where guidance and feedback is given regarding the preparation and content of the department reports.
