Writing for Children

The stories we love in childhood stay with us for the rest of our lives. This course considers what it means to write for children, and how this special category of writing grew to be a huge part of the literary world. Students will learn about various subcategories of children's literature, from picture books to easy readers to middle grade novels. We will experiment with writing different forms of KidLit, and we will study work from beloved children's authors. By the end of the course, students will be confident in their understanding of how to write for children in today's publishing environment.

Melissa Bobe

Melissa Bobe is a fiction writer based in New York. After a decade of teaching college English and earning a PhD in literature, as well as several other degrees, Melissa now works as a youth librarian. She is the founder and organizer of The Writing Hive and The Hive Press, and also serves as a moderator for the New York City Society of Wayward Writers.

Yoga - Flow and Restore

This class is for everyone. From beginners to experienced Yogi's.

Flow and Restore plus Core. Focus is on Abs. and Core. We will warm up, practice breathing, stretching, do some standing poses. Work on balance, steadiness, and flexibility, in a safe and fun way. Using props(yoga strap and 2 yoga blocks) one will learn how to incorporate these into the practice.

Come, relax, recharge, feel invigorated and uplifted.

Writing for Teens

Young adult literature is an immensely popular category of the contemporary book world. But what does it mean to write for readers in such a transitional, confusing, and exciting stage of life? In this course, we will explore the specific criteria involved in writing for today';s teens. We';ll examine the history of teen literature and how it has evolved into a thriving part of the publishing industry. Students will experiment with different forms of Young Adult literature and will be encouraged to discover the genres and themes that resonate most with their writing.

Tennis Lesson

These classes cover the fundamentals of tennis, including basic strokes, strategy, rules, scoring, and etiquette. Students will also participate in practice drills and both singles and doubles play. More advanced players will develop skills such as applying spin, improving court positioning and footwork, and mastering strategic techniques.

What to bring:
• Attire appropriate/readiness - weather appropriate/comfortable tennis apparel, footwear.
• Towel, water, cap, visor, bandana, wrist band.
• Appropriate tennis racket to mitigate potential risk of injury e.g. tennis elbow.
Tennis racket recommendation:
• Adult size - 27 inches +.
• Grip size - racket should fit comfortably in hand - no over-grip/no thumb overlap.
