Surviving and Thriving – From DREAMer to Politician: A conversation with New York State Assemblywomen Catalina Cruz about her life lessons and how they helped her during COVID-19.
Assemblywomen Cruz represents District 39 (Corona, Elmhurst and Jackson Heights). She came to New York from Colombia at the age of 9, eventually becoming graduate of John Jay College and CUNY School of Law. Currently, in the New York State Assembly she is serving as the Chairwoman of the Task Force on New Americans, along with various other committee memberships. Assemblywoman Cruz has worked on criminal justice reform, tenant protections, reproductive and immigration rights. When COVID began she turned her district office in Queens into a Food Pantry.
