New Student Engagement

To ensure your successful transition to QCC, after you register for classes make sure to follow these steps.

Step 1: Claim your QCC email, Tiger ID, and the QCC Connect App

  • Claiming your email account

Claiming your email is your first step! You can claim your QCC email (Office 365) 48 hours after you register for classes. We apologize for this delay, but our system takes a little time to sync. Two days after you register, click the link below to claim your email. You will use your email to connect with your professors, classmates, and more.

  • Claiming your Tiger ID Account

We know this may sound like many accounts to claim, but all of these tools will support your success at QCC. Your Tiger ID will grant you access to the QCC Connect App, campus Wi-Fi, and many other QCC resources. Your Tiger ID username and password are not the same as your Office 365 or CUNYfirst credentials.

  • Claiming your QCC Connect App

Lastly, you can now claim your QCC Connect App (make sure you have claimed your Tiger ID, or else you will not be able to log in to your QCC App). The QCC Connect App gives you access to your digital Student ID card, campus map, and contact information for QCC faculty and staff. To log in to the QCC App, download the QCC Connect App on your phone. Once opened, log in using your newly created Tiger ID username and password to log in.

Step 2: Pay Your Tuition

Although most QCC students receive some form of financial aid, it is your responsibility to ensure that your tuition charges are paid on time.  For new students, your tuition bill is due within a certain number of days before classes start. Here are your options:

  • Students receiving financial aid must ensure that they have completed the financial aid application and fulfilled all requirements to secure their aid. For further guidance feel free to email the Financial Aid Office at financialaid@qcc.cuny.edu
  • To take advantage of payment plan options and other ways to pay your tuition charges, click on the links below for more information.

Step 3: Claim Your Blackboard Account and Complete Your SPARC Training

Blackboard is a multi-functional web-based platform. It can be used to conduct online classes and complete required University trainings such as SPARC.

  • Claiming your Blackboard Account

In Blackboard you will find information for each course you take, including assignments shared by your professors, and other academic resources. Click the link below to access your Blackboard account. Your username and password are the same as your CUNYfirst account login. It should look like: firstname.lastname##@login.cuny.edu

  • Completing your Sexual and Interpersonal Violence Prevention and Response Course, also known as SPARC

Now that you have claimed your Blackboard account, you can now complete the mandatory SPARC training. New York State Requires all colleges to mandate students to complete ongoing education and training about sexual misconduct, including domestic violence, dating violence, stalking, sexual harassment, gender-based harassment, and sexual violence. At CUNY that training is called Sexual and Interpersonal Violence Prevention and Response Course (“SPARC”).

Please log in to Blackboard to complete your SPARC training online. SPARC can be found in Blackboard under “My Organizations”. SPARC should take about 45 minutes to complete.  Please take a picture, screen shot and/or save your results after you complete and submit your training. You will need to show proof of completion.

Step 4: Participate in New Student Orientation

Making the transition to college is exciting! Whether you are a recent high school graduate having to adjust to an unfamiliar routine, or someone preparing for a new career, New Student Orientation is designed to alleviate some of your concerns by providing information to help with your adjustment to the College.

Keep an eye out for an email invitation to attend New Student Orientation, also known as NSO. It’s the kick-off to your first semester as a Queensborough student! You will learn about the many resources and technology tools available to help you succeed as a new student. For more information, email us at NewStudents@qcc.cuny.edu.

Step 5: Get Ready for the first day of classes

You are almost ready to start your classes! Review these last steps to ensure your first day of classes is a productive one. Your last few steps will include:

  • How to Review Your Schedule

Review your schedule in CUNYfirst or through the QCC Connect App to learn what the instructional mode for each of your courses will be. You may be registered for in-person, hybrid, or online classes. If you are taking online classes, and have weekly meeting times at a set day and time – these are known as synchronous classes. You may have classes that do not meet at a set time – these are asynchronous classes.

  • How to purchase your textbooks

Check if your professors have posted your course textbook in Blackboard or CUNYfirst. You can purchase your textbooks through QCC's Online Bookstore. Click here to learn more.

  • Familiarizing yourself with the academic calendar and class modality – in-person, hybrid, or online.

Being able to plan ahead is an important part of being a successful QCC Student. Review the academic calendar to keep an eye on important deadlines, days when classes do not meet at their regular scheduled times or do not meet at all. Lastly, courses at QCC are offered in different modalities. These can be in-person, hybrid, online synchronous or asynchronous. It will be important for you to know which modality your courses are offered.

It is the responsibility of the student to self-identify as a student with a disability.

Students must contact OAS to schedule an appointment with the program director to register for services. It is the responsibility of the student to provide documentation (see documentation guidelines) to support the individual's request for any accommodations.

Students need to:

  1. Complete the OAS Intake form
  2. Submit documentation of disability that supports request for accommodation
