Directed by Michael Cesarano

The QCC Department of Speech Communication and Theatre Arts is pleased to present Play It Again, Sam. Faculty member Michael Cesarano directs a cast of QCC students in this 1969 Woody Allen play.

Play It Again, Sam is the story of New Yorker Allan Felix, a neurotic film critic and fanatical movie buff. Allan is obsessed with Humphrey Bogart; he tries to model his behavior after the personality of the tough-guy actor.

Allan's wife Nancy has deserted him because, as she tells him, "...you're one of life's great watchers...I'm not like that, I'm a doer..." He receives encouragement and coaching on how to make it with the ladies from the fantasy ghost of his film idol Humphrey Bogart. "Dames are simple. I never met one that didn't understand a slap in the mouth or a slug from a forty-five."

Dick and Linda Christie, Allan's married friends, try to help him jump-start his love life. They soon find that it's going to be more difficult than they thought, as Allan somehow manages to blow opportunity after opportunity.

Woody Allen's Play It Again, Sam is a smart, funny play that eloquently illustrates the value of being yourself.
