The CUNYAC CC Men’s Soccer championship took place at the Metropolitan Oval on October 17, 2016. The top-seeded Queensborough CC Tigers played host to the second-seeded Panthers from the Borough of Manhattan CC Panthers, the third CUNYAC Final matchup in a row for these two programs. The Panthers claimed the 2016 CUNYAC title by a score of 4-0 after being propelled by two goals from championship MVP Daouda Coulibaly.

"I can't wait to go home and tell my parents and brothers about today's game," said Coulibaly.

The game was a close one early on in the first half. Both teams developed some healthy scoring opportunities but the defenses stood tough. The game’s first real chance saw Marcus Folkes take a long shot just inside of midfield only for it to bounce over the crossbar for a goal kick.

Queensborough created plenty of chances on their own as well securing a number of corner kicks and playing the ball out wide, sending in great crosses only for them to not cause any threat.

The scoring drought ended in the 29th minute when BMCC’s Karim Piottin-Ndiaye put a direct free kick into the box. It fell onto the feet of Peter Ceesay whose shot was saved and it left Daouda Coulibaly with a wide open net as he calmly finished to put the Panthers up 1-0.

"When I scored that first goal, I wasn't even thinking I just did it," said Coulibaly. "Afterwards, I went over to my teammates and they told me to just keep going and get us more goals." Tha'ts exactly what Coulibaly would do later in the game.

The game would remain tightly contested for the rest of the first half as the two teams battled for possession and the play got more physical. The game would go to halftime at 1-0 and either team still had a chance to take this one.

It would get much more tough for the Tigers once the second half began however, when in the 46th minute, the Tigers defense would get called for a handball in the box giving BMCC a penalty kick. Once again, Coulibaly would score for the Panthers after calmly finishing into the lower right hand corner to push their lead to 2-0.

BMCC would then carry this momentum throughout the game and never look back. In the 68th minute Peter Ceesay would launch a free kick from 45 yards out that sailed over the head of Tigers keeper Georgios Gerontidis, putting BMCC more ahead by the score of 3-0.

The final goal caused an eruption from the BMCC bench as Adama Coulibaly got out on a breakaway once again on the right wing and calmly slotted home the fourth goal for the Panthers. His teammates then mobbed him near the corner flag as they celebrated their 2016 CUNYAC Championship.

"I just told them to remain calm, when you get up one or even two goals you can get complacent, our team stayed focused and we got the victory when it counted most against a team we lost to during the regular season," stated BMCC head coach Modou Seck.
