Classicism and Exile: the Life and Work of Marcel Salinas (1913-2010)
The exhibition is retrospective of the work of the French painter Marcel Salinas who was born in Alexandria, Egypt in 1913. He spent a major part of his artistic life in France where he was a noted figure in the art world before leaving for the U. S. towards the end of his life. It will draw on the extensive archives left to the trustees of his estate, including sketchbooks, letters, and other documents pertaining to his life. While the focus will be primarily on his paintings, his works as a lithographer and a photographer will be used as points of comparison and contrast, thus bringing into relief the richness of his visual world.
