Kupferberg Holocaust Resource Center and Archives to Launch Student Internship Program Studying the Impact of World War II on Asia
Queensborough’s Kupferberg Holocaust Resource Center and Archives—in partnership with Korean American Civic Empowerment (KACE)—has launched an internship program this fall for QCC students to learn about the victims of aggression in Asia during World War II.
Student interns will interview local survivors and then recount and reflect on their stories at a special event.
The new initiative serves as a potent educational method for preserving survivors’ memories and teaching about the impact of prejudice.
“Just as we have guaranteed our local Holocaust survivors that they and their stories will not be forgotten, we now have joined together with members of the Asian survivors’ community to undertake a similar project,” explained Dr. Arthur Flug, Executive Director of the Kupferberg Holocaust Resource Center and Archives.
“It is an honor to work with Dr. Flug on this important initiative,” said Dongchan Kim, president of KACE. “Together, we will encourage Asian seniors residing in the Queens community to come together to retell their stories and seek the recognition they deserve.”
Internship applications from students of all ages, ethnic backgrounds and academic disciplines have tripled at the Kupferberg Holocaust Resource Center and Archives since the program’s inception in 2007.
