With Queensborough playing at home for the first time since their thrilling comeback against Bergen, the seemed to follow the same formula against Suffolk. However, this time they ran out of time, and lost by five after trailing by 16 in the second half.

The Tigers led early, but a 4-3 lead would be QCC’s last. The Sharks went on a 12-0 run to turn a 4-1 deficit into a 13-4 lead. The ball-handling of Nasha Smith and the low-post work of Jordan Ward-Adams gave Suffolk a double-digit lead going into halftime, 43-33.

Suffolk took a 60-44 lead and things looked to be over for the Tigers. The Tigers came clawing back and cut the lead to single-digits on a bucket by Tyler Jenkins to make it 63-54. Eventually another basket by Jenkins made it 68-62, the closest it had been since the first half. A put-back basket by Nick Gallena with 2:15 made it 70-62. Gallena’s first points were crucial but not back-breaking. With over a minute to go two Tiger free-throws made it 73-68, but Shabazz Thomkins answered at the other end with under a minute remaining to make it 75-68 and Suffolk held on to win 75-70.

Smith finished with 18 points, 12 assists and four steals. Ward-Adams also scored 18 points and hauled in seven rebounds. Thomkins finished with 10. Taequann Washington led QCC with a game-high 20 points.
