In the game of the year, Queensborough kept coming back to stun Bergen County in overtime. The Tigers never even led until the extra session, and were behind by as many as 16, but played well enough to hang around and then shock Bergen.

Queensborough, playing at home for the first time in the early season, fell behind 9-0 in 77 seconds. QCC cut the lead to one, but Bergen finished the half strong going up 43-33. The Bergen lead reached 16 and with under 13 minutes to play, QCC trailed 62-46.

Queensborough came roaring back with a 13-0 run, led by Tyler Jenkins and Taequann Washington. Bergen wasn’t flustered and scored eight in a row to push the lead back up to 11. With 4:20 to go the Tigers trailed 79-70. Stephon Medard helped bring the Tigers back, but with two minutes to go, Bergen had the ball up 81-77. QCC forced a turnover and Medard cut the lead in half. Bergen’s Zach Anderson was fouled and made both of his free throws with 1:29 to go, to put Bergen up by four. Jenkins scored down low to cut the lead in half, but Nate Lopez hit a big shot to put Bergen up 85-81 with under a minute to play.

Again QCC found Jenkins down low to make it 85-83, but they needed a stop. Maynard Freeman lost his footing and the ball, and Paul Medard tied the game with a lay-up at the other end. Bergen was called for a charge and now Queensborough had a chance to win the game.

Washington turned it over, and an outlet pass looked like it might win Bergen the game, but the Tigers got away with a foul which wasn’t called and the game went to overtime. Bergen was not flustered, building a five-point lead, going up 94-89 with 2:12 remaining. Alan Smith put back a miss by Washington to make it a three-point game and after Anderson missed, Washington found Stephon Medard for the game-tying three with under 1:40 to play. Smith then forced a steal and hit a lay-up giving the Tigers their firs lead of the game, 96-94. After a foul on Bergen, Jenkins hit yet another huge shot to put QCC up 98-94.

A Bergen deuce, two Washington free throws and another two from Bergen, put QCC up 100-98 with 27.7 seconds to go. Washington was fouled and split the free throws giving Bergen 20 seconds to tie the game. Coach Larry Dantlzer chose not to foul, and when Bergen missed two three-pointers his decision paid off and the Tigers had escaped with a 101-98 overtime victory.
