"Good Judgment: It Makes All The Difference"
Thursday, October 27, 2011
01h: 03m:38s | 1816 views

Mr. Zicklin will share his expertise in the areas of corporate governance, business ethics, and finance, speaking to students about how to present themselves and to demonstrate that when all is said and done, good judgment is the greatest contributor to a successful career. Poor judgment, however, inevitably leads to professional mediocrity. There are also countless examples of executives who completely destroyed their careers and, in many cases, ruined their lives by exercising poor judgment. Mr. Zicklin will describe why the importance of good character shapes judgment, and why courage is an integral part of that process. He will share his belief that judgment can be learned and that there is no better time to begin the process then during one’s college years. It is at college that students have the perfect opportunity to sharpen their reasoning at a time when the penalty for failure is relatively modest and careers are not at stake. Good judgment is also highly related to leadership and Mr. Zicklin will offer some examples to demonstrate the point. As part of the presentation, he will provide examples of poor judgment and how it influences both a career and affects those who get caught up in its consequences. As Noel M. Tichy and Warren Bennis once wrote; “If there is good judgment, little else matters. If there is poor judgment, nothing else matters.”

Mr. Zicklin was educated at The City College of The City University of New York (CUNY) and received an MBA from the Wharton School. He is active in many charities and endowed the Business School at Baruch College (the largest public business school in the U.S.) as well as the Ethics Center at Wharton. He is a Clinical Professor at the Stern School at New York University, and a Senior Lecturer at the Wharton School and a member of Duke Corporate Education’s Global Learning Resource Network, Mr. Zicklin teaches in the Trium and MBA Programs at Stern and has received teaching awards in both. He has also taught at Baruch College, including their programs in Taiwan and Singapore, and for Wharton in their MBA program where he has received three teaching awards. Mr. Zicklin is a past President and current Chairman of the Board of the Baruch College Fund.
