The current team was led by Stephon Medard and Fiyifoluwa Ojugbele, while new point guard Taequann Washington added a spark. The Tigers also featured a new assistant coach, Marvin Patterson, whose importance was multiplied as Larry Dantzler’s regular assistants Damien Broadwater and Gamal Steele suited up for the Alumni.

The Alumni led 14-6 in the early going, but lost the momentum when Steele was put on the bench for an extended period of time. The Tigers would go on a 10-0 run to take a 17-16 lead. More back and forth basketball saw the game tied at 31, with several minutes to play in the first half. The Tigers ended the first half on a crucial 10-3 run, to go up 41-34.

The Tigers went up by as many as twelve in the second half, as Coach Dantzler’s 2-3 zone stifled the alumni. The Old School Tigers were settling for long jump shots, many of which were off the mark. The Alumni hit a lay-up at the buzzer to make the final score 78-75, although the three-point margin was the closest the game had been since the first half.
