Fall 2016 - Spring 2017

The 31st Annual Michael Steuerman Scholar-Athlete Awards Dinner for the CUNY Athletic Conference was held at Queens College on May 18th, 2017. The night was a tribute to CUNYAC's superb student-athletes, coaches, administrators, and supporters. The evening's honorees represent the very best CUNY has to offer in quality academics and athletics. Among the honors and accolades, Queensborough Community College had several notable winners.

Carmen Clavijo was honored with one of the biggest awards as she was named Scholar Athlete of the Year. 15 Queensborough student-athletes named CUNYAC All-Americans. 3 Queensborough student-athletes named CUNYAC Scholar Athlete of the Year Honorable Mentions (John-Timothy Hines, men’s indoor & outdoor track and field, Taiwo Owoeye, softball, and Tomas Skukauskas, men’s swimming). Topping off the night Queensborough President Call joined Athletic Director Jon Hochberg along with the QCC Student Government President, several coaches, and student-athletes, accepting the CUNYAC Commissioner's Cup for the 4th straight year.

The QCC Men's Baseball Team participated in the Region XV Tournament @ SUNY Farmingdale on Thursday, 5/12/16-Saturday, 5/14/16.

The Tigers battled, but lost to Suffolk CC & Kingsborough CC and were eliminated from the Tournament.

Congratulations to Suffolk CC, they were declared the 2016 Region XV Champions. Suffolk CC will advance to the NJCAA National Championships in Kingston, NC.

The Queensborough Tigers have captured the #2 Seed and will be facing Kingsborough CC (# 1 Seed) in the 2016 Baseball CUNY Championships.

The CUNY Baseball Championships will be on Tuesday, 5/3/16 at MCU Ballpark (Cyclone Stadium) at 7:00pm.

Tickets: Admission inside MCU Ballpark is "free of charge". Fans are being asked to register for tickets prior to arriving to the site. Tickets can be secured by going to www.cunyathletics.com/ticketswww.cunyathletics.com/tickets

Fans: Gates will open to the fans at 6pm. Parking is available in the MCU Parking Lot for a fee. Parking will also be available on the street (no fee).

Congratulations to Coach Jason Demas on winning the 2016 Thirty under 30 award from the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA).

Coach Demas is a two-time winner having won it in 2015. He is only one of two NJCAA (2-year) college coaches to win the award in 2016. Read the full story.

The QCC Men's & Women's Indoor Track Team participated in the CUNY Athletic Conference Championships @ the New Balance Track & Field on Sunday, 2/28/16.

The Men's Team captured 1st Place and were declared the 2016 Community College CUNY Champions.
The Women's Team captured 2nd Place and were declared the 2016 Community College "Runner Ups".

The QCC Women’s Volleyball Team participated in the Region XV Tournament on Saturday, 10/31/15

The Lady Tigers defeated Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) in the first match and advanced to the Region XV Championship Game.

QCC battled, but eventually lost to Nassau CC. Nassau CC was declared the 2015 Region XV Champions. QCC was declared the 2015 Region XV Runner Ups.

Nassau CC will advance to the NJCAA National Volleyball Championships on 11/13/15 & 11/14/15 at Rochester, MN.

The following QCC Volleyball Athletes have received Regional and / or CUNY Athletic Conference Honors:

The >QCC Men’s Soccer Team participated in the Region XV Semi-Final Game at Suffolk on 10/28/15.

The Tigers battled in the rain and windy conditions, but lost to Suffolk CC by a score of 3-0.

Congratulations to Suffolk CC and Nassau CC, they will be playing in the Region XV Championship Game on Saturday, 10/31/15 at Mitchell Field.
The Region XV Champion advances to the NJCAA National Championships at Herkimer CC on 11/12-11/15.

The >QCC Men’s Soccer Team hosted a Region XV Playoff Game on Saturday, 10/24/15.

The Tigers defeated Bronx CC by a score of 3-0. They will advance to the Region XV Semi Finals on Wednesday, 10/28/15 at 2:00pm.

QCC Women's Volleyball Players Caffrey & Reyes Win CUNYAC Community College Awards

CUNYAC/Pepsi Community College Female Player of the Week

Women's Volleyball/Outside Hitter/Sophomore/Staten Island, NY/Susan Wagner

Alanna Caffrey has been named this week's Community College Female Player of the Week for the week of 10/12-10/18. This is the second consecutive week and fourth time this season for which Caffrey has earned weekly honors.The captain helped the Lady Tigers to three important wins this week. Her stand out performance was against Westchester Community College where she led the team with 18 kills and 19 digs, with both being season highs.

Women's Volleyball/Setter/Freshman/Queens, NY/Richmond Hill

Kiara Reyes has been named this week's CUNYAC/Pepsi Community College Rookie of the Week for the week of 10/12-10/18. The talented freshmen who is half of setting duo at Queensborough had a stand out week. She tallied 52 assists and 15 aces for the week. Her 15 aces for this one week more than doubled her entire season total for service aces. Her stand out performance was against Westchester Community College where she recorded 23 assists and 6 service aces, with both beings career highs.


The >QCC Men’s Soccer Team played in the CUNY Championships on Monday, 10/19/15 at the Metropolitan Oval.

The Tigers defeated BMCC by a score of 3-2 and were declared the 2015 CUNY Athletic Conference Champions. With the victory, the Tigers captured their 3rd straight CUNY Athletic Conference Title. Full a complete story, please click here. See the video trailer here.

QCC Women's Volleyball Players Caffrey & Williams Win CUNYAC Community College Awards

Alanna Caffrey, Outside Hitter/Sophomore

Alanna Caffrey has been named this week's Community College Female Player of the Week for the week of 10/5-10/11. The sophomore recorded 19 kills in her three matches last week to go along with five aces and 23 digs. Queensborough's outside hitter had a big game in the team's match with Sullivan as Caffrey collected 11 kills with two aces and six digs in the Tigers victory.

Zuri Williams, Middle Hitter/Freshman

Zuri Williams has been named this week's CUNYAC/Pepsi Community College Rookie of the Week for the week of 10/5-10/11. Williams provided her team with 14 kills and seven blocks in her three matches last week. The middle hitter recorded eight kills and three blocks in a Queensborough win over Sullivan.

Zuri Williams, Middle Hitter/Freshman

Zuri Williams has been named this week's CUNYAC/Pepsi Community College Rookie of the Week for the week of 9/28-10/5. The freshman recorded 21 kills in 33 attempts while leading the team in blocks with eight for the week. Her stand out performance was against Suffolk Community College, tallying nine kills on 13 attempts with four blocks.

Alanna Caffrey has been named this week's Community College Female Player of the Week for the week of 9/21-9/27. This is Caffrey's second straight honor. Caffrey led the team in kills in both important three-set CUNYAC victories. Her stand out game was against Bronx CC, she recorded a season high 13 kills and hit a season high .632. The sophomore also had 8 kills, 0 errors, and 10 digs in a win over BMCC.

Alanna Caffrey has been named this week's Community College Female Player of the Week for the week of 9/14-9/20. The 2014 CUNYAC Rookie of the Year led the team to two important CUNYAC wins. She was the definition of consistency by recording 9 kills and 12 digs in the wins over BMCC and Kingsborough. The Staten Island native tied for the team lead in kills against BMCC and led her team against the Wave.

Zuri Williams has been named this week's CUNYAC/Pepsi Community College Rookie of the Week for the week of 9/14-9/20. Williams' offensive and blocking skills allowed Queensborough to win two important CUNYAC matches during the week. She was tied with Caffrey for the team lead in kills against BMCC with nine while hitting .313 in the game. She hit an impressive .500 against Kingsborough with seven kills and recorded a team-high three blocks.


The QCC Women’s Volleyball Team will start the 2015 Season on Saturday, 9/5/15.

Excellence, Dedication and Leadership Celebrated at Athletic Awards Ceremony on May 13

Students, faculty and coaching staff in the Department of Health, Physical Education and Dance (HPED) gathered to recognize the outstanding efforts and excellence in the artistic and athletic endeavors that have become a tradition at Queensborough Community College. Among those who made remarks during the event were President Diane B. Call; Dr. Young Kim, Department Chairperson; Pete Marchitello, Women's & Men's Intercollegiate Coordinator and Professor Emily Berry, Dance Coordinator.
