The Board recognizes the
historic tradition which vests both the privileges and
responsibilities of academic governance in the faculty of a college.
The faculty, as the body chiefly responsible for the educational
mission as well as for academic standards, is that part upon which
the health of the whole institution depends. In this role, the
faculty has a long tradition of collegiality, in which its various
educational responsibilities are freely shared among its members.---CUNY

Faculty of this College are invited to make use of the information
presented through this webpage. It provides an introduction to the role of member of
the faculty and to its incumbent rights and responsibilities.
There is information on the benefits and supports available
for faculty. Among them, and perhaps most important, is that of
Academic Freedom that supports and protects faculty as they fulfill
responsibilities in making academic judgments expressed and
effectuated through participation in shared governance at all levels
within the university. There are acts of state legislation, Board
of Trustees bylaws and local governance plans that make explicit the
important, essential and extensive nature of the role of faculty in
making academic judgments and in shared governance. This information
is offered in support of faculty learning of their
prerogatives and rights and their enjoying and fulfilling their
vital role in the life and growth of this University.
