GROUP III.
1. Joe: I'm going to install this new vcr that I have just
purchased.
Sam: How do you know how to do that?
Joe: Well, I've installed two other models made by this
manufacturer, so I'm sure that I can do it. This model
isn't much different.
Sam: You're not even reading the directions.
Joe: Don't have to. I already told you. I'm experienced.
2. George: This plant isn't doing well. I think it must be
getting too much light. After all it's by the window.
Henry: Are you sure?
George: Yes. There were three plants. The other two are doing
fine in the living room. I treat them all alike. But,
this one by the kitchen window gets more sunlight than
the other two.
Henry: That's what makes you so certain.
George: Yes.
3. Bert: This city administration is filled with corruption.
All of the mayors appointees are corrupt.
Ernie: What makes you think that?
Bert: Well , look for yourself. The director of transportation
was found guilty of taking bribes. Same thing with the
head of the highway department and the taxi commission.
The cultural affairs commissioner and the sanitation
commissioner were also involved in conflict of interest
situations. Now if that doesn't show you, what does?
4. Mary: You go figure it.
Bill: Go figure what?
Mary: We didn't get those promotions we expected. Only to
people got promoted : Joe Williams and Louise
Mason and those two couldn't be more different.
One a male, the other a female. One is short , the other
tall. They have different temperaments, work habits,
management styles; the works. So , how do you figure
what made them get promoted. What do you have to do to
get promoted around here?
Bill: No problem. I know why they were promoted.
Mary: What is it?
Bill: They have one thing in common: they are both black.
5.
Larry: You can't trust this district attorney. I'm advising you
not to cooperate with the investigation.
Joe: Why not?
Larry: Well in another case that involved a white district
attorney and a crime against a black person the district
attorney was not at all aggressive is prosecuting the case.
He was engaged in a cover up. He was white just as this
one is.
Joe: I guess you are right. You know best.
