Following a debut run at the Carlyle Hotel in New York City, television, movie and Broadway star Tony Danza brings his cabaret act, Standards & Stories to QPAC. Perhaps best known for legendary starring roles on two of television’s most cherished and long-running series, Taxi and Who’s The Boss, Danza has also established himself as a Broadway star and is indisputably one of today’s most iconic and sought after performers.  Danza most recently received rave reviews for his performance in the Broadway production of Honeymoon In Vegas, with the New York Times calling him a “sly genius,” and his performance a “career high.  He has also starred on Broadway in The Producers, A View From The Bridge and The Iceman Cometh.  Backed by a live band, Standards & Stories features a selection of timeless hits from the Great American Songbook performed by this modern day song and dance man. “A live wire who tap-dances, plays the ukulele, tells stories and radiates irresistible charm!”

The Tamburitzans: New Horizons

Artistically representing the dances, music and songs of East European and neighboring cultures, the Tamburitzans present a wonderful two-hour journey through the towns, back roads and villages of the “Old Country.”  The Tamburitzans’ dazzling program is performed by 36 performers with hundreds of colorful costumes, and features fresh, live music performed on authentic instruments.  This show will take you on a musical tour traveling through such countries as Bulgaria, Croatia, Serbia, Slovakis, Greece, Russia and others.  Jennifer Dunning of The New York Times hails the ensemble, “…a joyous explosion of spirited music and dance.”

Billy Porter In Concert!

Tony Award winner and Broadway powerhouse Billy Porter is on the heels of his successful run in Shuffle Along where he performed with fellow Tony Award winners Audra McDonald and Brian Stokes Mitchell.  This Tony and Grammy Award-winning singer, composer, actor, playwright, and director makes his QPAC debut.  For his role, in Broadway’s Kinky Boots, Porter won the 2013 Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical, Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Actor in a Musical and Outer Critics Award for Outstanding Actor in a Musical. Other Broadway credits include Miss Saigon, Five Guys Named Moe, Grease, Smokey Joe’s Café, and Dreamgirls.  Having recently released his third cd, Billy’s Back On Broadway, his performance this afternoon will encompass songs from his victorious roles on Broadway, as well as a tribute to some of the artists and music that have inspired him along the way.  Join us in seeing the irresistible Kinky Boots star where his talents shine the brightest—center stage!

Russian National Ballet: Swan Lake

Simply one of the greatest classical ballets of all time, Swan Lake (with magnificent music by Tchaikovsky) is based on a German fairy tale and follows the heroic young Prince Siegfried, as he labors to free the delicately beautiful swan maiden Odette, from an evil sorcerer's spell.  The Russian National Ballet, founded in Moscow in the late 1980’s, presents this full-length ballet in four acts.  Swan Lake, with choreography by Marius Petips and Lev Ivanov, is being performed by the troupe's principal dancers from the ranks of Russia's top companies.  “The Russian National Ballet, Directed by Elena Radchenko, is a cut above many of its rivals. Vanessa Williams: Live In Concert!

Live in concert, QPAC presents one of the most respected and multi-faceted performers in the entertainment industry today.  Vanessa Williams grew from chart-topping pop singer to critically acclaimed Broadway performer with her roles in Kiss of the Spider Woman, Into The Woods, Trip To Bountiful, After Midnight and for television, Show Boat and Bye Bye Birdie.  Williams received considerable media attention for her comic/villainess role as former model/magazine creative director turned editor-in-chief Wilhelmina Slate in the ABC comedy series Ugly Betty. Lights, Camera, Music!

QPAC and The Astoria Symphony Orchestra team up to celebrate the music composed for the big screen with live stage performances.  Enjoy great American cinema like never before with the scores from some of the most notorious feature films of our time performed live.  Video clips of some of the biggest movies in Hollywood history will be projected overhead.  Accompanying the Symphony are vocalists Megan Pachecano, soprano and Tommy Wazelle, tenor.  Performing live classic movie music to video, the program includes Salute to Cinema, Magnificant Seven, As Time Goes By, I Got Rhythm, I Dreamed A Dream (from Les Misérables), Let It Go (from Frozen), Maria/Tonight (from West Side Story), the Star Wars Theme and others.  People of all ages can enjoy these beloved films in a whole new way – with thrilling scores that fill the concert hall!
