The Russian National Ballet Theatre was founded in 1989 when legendary principal dancer of the Bolshoi Ballet Sergei Radchenko sought to realize his vision of a company which would bring together the highest classical elements of the great Bolshoi and Kirov Ballet. Performing Giselle, this classic ballet tells the story of a young, innocent village maiden who is in love with a man she knows only as Loys. In reality, the man is Albrecht, a nobleman disguised as a peasant, who is betrothed to Bathilde, daughter of the Duke. The ballet roles in Giselle are some of the most sought-after, as the choreography demands both technical perfection and outstanding grace and lyricism, as well as great dramatic skill.
