Chubby Checker recorded his most famous #1 hit, The Twist in 1960 which remains the yardstick against which all subsequent dance floor phenomena are measured. The Twist was not only the #1 song but it introduced the concept of "dancing apart to the beat". Checker is the unrivaled king of the rock & roll dance craze which also included the Pony, the Fly and the Hucklebuck. Checker returned to the top in 1961 with Do the Pony and Let's Twist Again. He is the only artist to have 5 albums in the Top 12 all at once. Opening act The Chords are best known for their #1 hit Sh-Boom. They were the first R&B group in the 1950’s to hit the pop-charts.
