Accredited by National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC), Middle States Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools, and The New York State Department of Education since 1967 QCC has graduated over 5000 nurses. It is the major supplier of registered nurses to the Queens community.
Program of Study: two and one half-year program leading to an Associate in Applied Science degree. Graduates are eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Professional Nursing (NCLEX-RN).
Admission and Placement: to be admitted to Queensborough with degree status, a student must hold a high school diploma or GED (with scores). All students entering the college must take:
- CUNY Assessment Tests in Writing, Reading and the CUNY Mathematics Assessment Test (CMAT) for incoming Freshmen and non-CUNY transfer students.
- Exit from remediation testing. All remediation must be successfully completed before entering the nursing clinical sequence. For additional information on required testing see college catalog.
Application to the Program: In order to progress to the clinical nursing sequence of courses, students must first complete a pre-Nursing sequence of 13 credits and attain a minimum GPA of 2.75 in this sequence to make application. Admission to clinical seats is competitive. A grade point average of 2.75 does not guarantee you a seat; it means that you are eligible to be considered. Seats are assigned to students who demonstrate the strongest academic preparation.

No course in this sequence may be repeated to improve the grade. Since we anticipate that evening students will be applying to the program with a variety of previous educational experiences, we strongly encourage you to seek academic counseling from members of the nursing faculty.
Transfer students: If you began your nursing studies at another institution, or have a transcript from another school please have it evaluated for transfer credit. All pre-clinical sequence courses transferred from another institution will be evaluated for grades earned at previous institution. All nursing courses must be taken at Queensborough Community College.
Licensed Practical Nurses: LPNs who are accepted into the nursing program may challenge the first clinical semester by successfully completing the following examinations:
- The NLN Mobility Profile I passed with a minimum grade of 74.
- The Nursing Performance Examination.
This course is worth 7 credits towards graduation.
Grading: Once admitted to the clinical nursing sequence, a student must receive a C or better in each nursing course to advance. Students must also maintain an overall GPA of 2.0 to advance and to graduate from QCC.
