Parents, guardians, family members and others who support Queensborough students play an important role in their student's journey through their academic career. We want to provide you with information so that you can continue to support your student in a variety of ways.
Below are important resources and information to help get you started.
|Schedules are assigned for students||Students create their own schedules|
|Students are told what class subjects to take||Working with their adviser, students have options on which classes to take based on their major|
|Students can spend around 30 hours a week in class||Time in class may very but can average 10-15 hours a week|
|Students might spend a few hours studying weekly||For every hour a student is in class (per week), they are advised to spend 3 hours per week studying for that class|
|High school teachers might remind students of assignment due dates||College professors will provide a syllabus to track assignments of their own.|
|Parents have access to student info records||Students are responsible for providing information to their parents
There are federal guidelines on the types of information that can be given out. For more information on these guidelines, please refer to the FERPA Guide
|Bills||College tuition bills are not mailed to parents and students. Students have access to view tuition and fees when they log into their CUNYfirst account.|
|Tuition – Free public high schools
Many students attend high school for free
|College students are responsible financially for tuition and fees (which may be covered by financial aid)|
|Books – most books are provided to high school students||Students are responsible for cost of text books on their own, unless a part of a special program|
|Lunch – some students are eligible for reduced or free lunch||Students are responsible for cost of their own lunch|
|Transportation - some are eligible for reduced or a free metro card||Students are responsible for their own cost of transportation, unless a part of a special program|
There are many resources to our students and their parents, including access to Financial Aid TV (FATV) which provides students and families with instant 24/7 access to short videos that discuss important financial aid topics.
Benefits and support services
Our Single Stop Office connects students and their families to a variety of resources and coordinates access to benefits that you may be eligible for. For eligible students and immediate family members, the office also offers free tax preparation and free legal services.
Paying for College
The Bursar’s office assists students with all billing and account inquires; disburse refund checks; and provide information on the monthly payment plan. There are six ways to pay your student’s tuition bill and fees, for more information visit the Bursar's office
Tiger Card – the Student ID card
Students can add money to theirTiger Card, if they purchase food on campus with their Tiger Card, they do not have to pay taxes for food!
There are Tiger Card refill stations located around campus
Students also use their Tiger Card to pay for parking in the student parking lot on campus
