Queensborough Named Favorite to Win 2017 CUNYAC Women’s Volleyball Title
In a vote by the league's head volleyball coaches, Queensborough Community College was selected as the favorite to hoist the 2017 CUNYAC Community College Volleyball Championship, in a preseason poll released August 24.
Though Queensborough and Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC) received the same number of points (13) in the balloting, the Tigers earned three of the four first-place nods to top the poll.
Queensborough, which garnered votes in the 2017 NJCAA Division III Preseason Poll, captured its second straight CUNYAC title last season with a 3-0 sweep of BMCC. The Tigers also won a Region XV and District F Championship and finished the campaign at No. 7 in the national rankings.
Sophomore middle hitter Joelle Desrosiers, a 2016 CUNYAC All-Star, was named the CUNYAC Preseason Player of the Year. In 30 matches last year, Desrosiers slammed down 168 kills on a .469 hitting percentage, while rejecting 46 blocks and serving 33 aces.
The 2017 CUNYAC Community College Volleyball Championship will be held on Monday, October 23 at Queensborough Community College. The semifinals are slated to begin at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m., with the final to follow at 8 p.m.
