Queensborough's chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society has increased its membership by 25 percent during the past year, earning the College five Pinnacle Award Membership Scholarships.
Phi Theta Kappa is the official honor society of two-year colleges as recognized by the American Association of Community Colleges. The Phi Theta Kappa experience promotes excellence in academics, works to expand students’ academic horizons, keeps students on track to complete college, develops effective communication and leadership skills, and empowers students for future success.
Each Pinnacle scholarship is worth $55 and funds membership fees for new inductees in the Lambda Sigma chapter at Queensborough.
Many QCC alumni have gone on to success after their involvement with Phi Theta Kappa. Sheryll Pang went on to enroll at Baruch College and was recently awarded a scholarship from from Asian Women in Business. Also, John Wilkinson, an alumnus of the Gallery and Museum Studies Program, former president of Phi Theta Kappa at QCC, and student representative for the QCC Art Gallery Advisory Council, continued his studies at Columbia University.
