What MALES Offers

Mentoring
     Carefully matched peer, staff or faculty mentors will be provided to each student. Mentors are selected from a pool of outstanding students and dedicated staff from many departments at the college. Currently committed faculty from English, Business, Music, Technology, Basic Skills, Nursing, History and Math also serve as mentors.
     Students’ college experience will be enhanced by this relationship as mentors walk them through the complexities of the campus experience. They will become allies for success as well as help students expand their vision for their future.

Field Experiences
     Off campus experiences in the form of field trips and conferences, will be provided to students free of charge to enable familiarization and exploration of career and academic choices.

Workshops
     Supplemental monthly activities related to academic and career success will add another dimension of enrichment to the college experience. 

Internships
     Stipends will be offered to qualifying MALES program students for internships coordinated through various departments at Queensborough Community College.

Collaboration with QCC Departments
     MALES will work closely with various departments and initiatives such as Learning Communities, Counseling and Career Services to guarantee students make full use of the advantages afforded them at Queensborough Community College.

Summer Business Seminar
     Specialized seminar to prepare students for the world of work will be offered in summer 2008.

Targeted Orientation and Early Support
     Targeted early support and orientations will be provided during the semester, summer and intercession periods

Early Academic Advisement
     Advisors will be available to MALES students for early advisement to ensure the student's academic courses are on track.

Guest Speakers
     Students will have the opportunity to attend motivational seminars offered by successful professionals.

Tutoring
     Tutoring for critical classes will be provided free of charge.

MALES Club
     Club activities will be coordinated with Student Activities and co sponsored with other clubs on campus.
