Academic Senate Committee on Bylaws on Wednesday, October 17, 2018

The Academic Senate Committee on Bylaws met on Wednesday, October 17th, 2018, 1 pm, Humanities 458

Committee Members in Attendance:

Susan Jacobowitz (Steering Committee Designee), Liza Larios (President’s Designee), Urszula Golobiewska, Shahadat Hossain, Sebastian Murolo (Chair), Richard Mocieli, Franca Ferrari, William J. Ryan (Secretary)

Business:

The meeting was called to order at 1 pm

The current agenda was approved.

The minutes from the 09/26/18 meeting were approved via an electronic vote.

The committee reviewed the proposed changes to the bylaws governing the ELearning Committee of the Academic Senate. After discussion, the committee agreed to the proposed changes with revisions to the rationale. A motion was made to vote to approve the changes, with revision to the rationale. The motion was seconded. The changes passed with a unanimous vote and will be returned to the ELearning committee with the suggested changes to the rationale.

The committee reviewed and discussed other changes to the bylaws proposed by the Steering Committee, including those governing the role of the President in presiding over Senate meetings, the number of senators appointed to the senate, as well as the procedure for the recall of sitting senators. The committee agreed to table the discussion of these changes, particularly due to the change in presidential leadership at the college.

Liza Larios introduced new business regarding the Academic Senate’s webpage. She identified a number of broken links and suggested that the committee address those issues. The committee agreed to take this issue under consideration.

The meeting was adjourned at 2:00 p.m.
