AS A TRANSFER STUDENT

Transfer students are those who have completed course work, or who are currently enrolled, at an undergraduate college or other post-secondary institution including a business, trade or technical school. These students must file the Transfer application for admission and may receive advanced standing for completed course work.

All applicants must apply for admission online, directly with the City University of New York (CUNY).

Applicants who do not have access to a computer may apply in person at Queensborough Community College

WHEN TO APPLY

Students who want to be assured that their applications will receive first priority are strongly advised to apply by October 1st for spring or February 1st for fall admission.

Transfer application fee - $70.00 (USD)- Payable by credit card, check or money order.

There is no filing fee for current CUNY students. All other transfer students pay the application fee at the time of application.

ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS FOR TRANSFER STUDENTS

Applicants who are currently matriculated or non-degree students at an approved degree-granting undergraduate institution other than Queensborough should show, at the time of application, that they have achieved a GPA of 2.00 (or C).

Those transfer students who have earned college credit with a GPA under 2.00 may be admitted on probation into a degree program IF THEY have:

• Been separated from an institution of higher education for at least one semester.

AND

• Never attended Queensborough

Students accepted on probation will be required to achieve a minimum GPA of 2.00 in their first semester at Queensborough. Failure to meet the required GPA will result in a loss of matriculated status. Students must also complete any remedial courses taken during their first semester at Queensborough with a “Pass” grade.

Students who have not yet earned college credit from other institutions will be admitted on the same basis as beginning freshmen. College transcripts will be reviewed when final grades are received, and a determination on the admissions status will then be made. Should the final GPA not meet Queensborough’s academic standards, the student may be placed on probation and be required to meet the conditions outlined above.

Students attending non-degree-granting institutions (such as schools of nursing, business or technical institutes, etc.) will be considered for admission as transfer students if they hold a high school diploma from an accredited institution, or hold a GED.

College credit for courses taken elsewhere will be granted ONLY for courses that are:

• applicable towards the student’s chosen curriculum at Queensborough, and
• Completed at the undergraduate* level at an accredited degree-granting institution with a minimum grade of “C”. (“D” grades are accepted from other units of CUNY.)

Transfer students pursuing an Associate’s Degree may NOT receive more than 30 transfer credits from institutions previously attended; no more than 15 credits are accepted towards a certificate program at Queensborough.

Transfer students must also meet requirements for the CUNY Assessment Tests. (Refer to the Testing section.)

CHANGE OF PLANS?

Newly admitted students who did not register for their first semester may file a REACTIVATION FORM for the following semester. Students who file for Reactivation early gain an advanced start for advisement and registration for the following semester. To obtain a REACTIVATION FORM, please contact the Admissions Office.

NOTE TO NURSING STUDENTS: Transfer students planning to pursue the Nursing curriculum must achieve a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 2.75 in the Pre-Clinical Sequence of that program. At the time of the transfer credit review, any unresolved grades on the transcript will be considered as “failing grades” and will be calculated as such into the GPA.

PROHIBITION ON SUBMISSION OF FRAUDULENT ADMISSION DOCUMENTS:

Applicants are required to report attendance at ALL post-secondary institutions, whether or not transfer credits may be awarded. Failure to report all institutions on the application is a violation of university policy and applicants could be barred from attending a CUNY college.

The submission of documents in support of applications for admission such as transcripts, diplomas, test scores, references, or the applications themselves, that are forged, fraudulent, altered from the original, obtained under false pretenses, or otherwise deceptive is prohibited and is punishable by a five year bar on applying for admission or five year suspension from CUNY.

A second violation is punishable by a lifetime ban on applying for admission or expulsion from CUNY.
