Verification Process and Online Forms
Once the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) has been completed, the information is processed by the U.S. Department of Education and the results are sent to all colleges listed on the FAFSA and the student. In some cases, the applications are selected by the U.S. Department of Education for a process called “verification.” For these cases, the school will be contacting the student to “verify” all information included on the FAFSA. Students can be asked to provide the following data:
- Parent and student federal tax returns with all supporting schedules
- Parent and student untaxed income
- Household size and the number of students in the household attending college
Additional information may be requested, as well, depending upon the specific details of each case.
In addition to the information above, all students who are selected for verification must complete a “Verification Worksheet”, with specific worksheets required for dependent or independent students. Downloadable worksheets are available below:
- Dependent Verification Worksheet (PDF)
- Independent Verification Worksheet (PDF)
Please make sure to complete and sign the appropriate worksheet, and mail it to the Office of Financial Services. For those students who have been selected for verification, financial aid awards can not be finalized and credited toward tuition bills until all requested information has been submitted and processed accordingly.
In an effort to reduce additional paperwork, please send information listed above only if the Queensborough Community College Office of Financial Services sends a letter requesting the data.
