Here you will find all the necessary information to successfully delivery your Fully Online, Hybrid and Web Supported Classes. Blackboard is a course management system that allows students and faculty to share and engage with learning materials and to communicate with each other in a virtual learning environment. Blackboard is extremely flexible and offers many different capabilities. Below you will find documents that will help you enhance your Blackboard courses as well as accurate information on how to troubleshoot the most common technical issues.

Important Information

Blackboard @ QCC/CUNY
Blackboard is hosted on Blackboard, Inc. infrastructure in Virginia. CUNY is licensed  to use Blackboard Learn (v9.1)
BB accounts are authenticated by the CUNY LDAP/PORTAL which pulls information from CUNYfirst.
Blackboard can be accessed through the CUNY Portal or the Blackboard Direct login. The CUNY portal is a gateway to various CUNY services: Blackboard, eSIMS, ePermit, information about applying to CUNY, CUNYMall etc. While most of this information was previously available, the CUNY portal makes it easier and faster to find what you need. And if you register on the portal, the ability to customize your view will make future visits to the portal more productive.

Teachers and students listed in CUNYfirst are automatically enrolled in their respective Blackboard courses
Department Chair -> Faculty + Course -> Registrar -> CUNYFirst -> LDAP/Portal -> Blackboard

Blackboard-process Blackboard course-shell is automatically created for every CUNY course before the beginning of each semester

• All Blackboard course-shells are set to “Unavailable” when they are created – so students will not see their courses when they login until their teachers make them available
• Teachers are the only ones who can make courses “Available”. How to make your course available
