The purpose of this project is to determine whether
integrating a rubric into teaching methodology improves student
retention and learning. The rubric chosen for this project is the AACU
Integrative VALUE Learning Rubric because project leaders feel that its
categories (Connections to Experience, Connections to Discipline,
Transfer, Integrated Communication, & Reflection and
Self-Assessment) reach across diverse curricula and match well with
other ongoing campus projects such as mTc and SWIG.
The MAeP project asks teachers to progressively modify two class
assignments over four semesters, adding new rubric-categories each
semester, finally resulting in the implementation of the entire rubric.
Student artifacts will be collected using the ePortfolio environment and
scored using the AACU rubric, and the data will be entered into a
database for institutional analysis and study. Collected student
artifacts will also be scored by an independent group of faculty and
students will use these same artifacts to build their ePortfolios.
For the Fall 2011 the project has 25 participant faculty members; ~500 students; ~1000 artifacts
