Teaching philosophy:

My teaching emphasizes student analysis and the development of cogent and persuasive expression of this analysis through student writing.  By integrating course readings and class discussions with critical writing, I create a class where students not only gain confidence in their own critical voices, but also learn to express themselves through writing.  I believe that students desire courses that aspire not only to instruct, but also to encourage and empower.  I have found that when properly guided, my students are creative and enthusiastic critics who appreciate the space to explore ideas they find exciting and relevant. Each course I teach provides me with new opportunities to improve my pedagogy and help to create new writers and critics.
