Research Interests:
I have interests in twentieth-century American literature; American cultural studies; digital composition; poetics.

My first book, Different Dispatches:  Journalism in American Modernist Prose, has just been reissued in paperwork by Routledge (2014).

Teaching philosophy:
I think that the classroom should never be isolated from the lives we lead, and so I try to create connections among our reading, writing, and everyday experiences. I emphasize that critical thinking and effective writing and speaking are more than important skills; they offer opportunities for civic engagement and personal growth. At the same time, I think that laughter can be an important part of learning, and I always try to engage students' goals and expectations. Queensborough students bring an inspiring enthusiasm and amazing diversity of experience and background to every class, and that's something I try to harness for all our benefit.
