**GENERAL DUTIES**

- Under direct supervision is responsible for the lubrication of power plant, pumping and/or construction equipment; performs related work.

- Lubricates and cleans pumps, engines, blowers, compressors, motors, gears, ejectors and other operating equipment.

- Assists in the operation, maintenance and repair of this equipment.

- Reads meters, gauges and other operating equipment.

- Keeps logs.

- Operates lubricant filtering and purifying equipment; maintains lubricant inventory.

- May be designated to inspect and service swimming pools and building safety equipment.

- May operate a motor vehicle in the performance of assigned duties.

The Buildings and Grounds Department welcomes applications for a full-time Oiler position. This position will be in Provisional status and will report to the Sr. Stationary Engineer in the Boiler Room of the Buildings & Grounds department.

**MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS**

1. Three (3) years' full-time satisfactory experience in the lubrication, maintenance and repair of mechanical equipment; OR

2. One and one-half (1 and 1/2) years of experience as described in 1 above plus graduation from an approved trade, technical or vocational high school or an approved internship program; OR

3. One (1) year of experience as described in 1 above plus an associate degree from an accredited school in mechanical technology.

NOTE: For appointment to certain positions, possession of a Class B Commercial Driver License valid in the State of New York may be required. There may be certain age requirements to obtain this license. Employees must maintain the Class B Commercial Driver License during their employment.

Employees assigned to inspect and service swimming pools and building safety equipment duties, must obtain certificates of fitness for: sprinklers, standpipe, fire guard and swimming pool operators, within six (6) months of their appointments.

**OTHER QUALIFICATIONS**

**PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS**

+ Demonstrated proficiency in maintaining, operating, and repairing air compressors.

+ Experience conducting sprinkler and standpipe inspections.

+ Proficiency in maintenance, operation, and repair of pumps and ejectors.

+ Skilled in lubricating and cleaning engines and motors.

+ Strong ability to maintain inventories and accurately keep logs.

+ Possession of a valid driver's license for motor vehicle operation.

+ Experience in the maintenance and operation of swimming pools.

**GENERAL DUTIES**

- Under supervision, overhauls, repairs and maintains engines and component assembles used in automotive and construction activities and all other equipment powered by internal combustion engines; performs related work.

- Acts as a "trouble shooter" in determining mechanical and electrical problems through the use of diagnostic equipment as necessary.

- Makes minor repairs and adjustments in the field so that a vehicle may be returned to the garage or repair shop under its own power.

**MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS**

1. Five (5) years of full-time satisfactory experience acquired within the last ten (10) years as an Auto Mechanic; OR

2. Not less than three (3) years of full-time satisfactory experience as specified in 1 above acquired within the last ten (10) years plus relevant education acquired in an approved trade or vocational high school to make up the equivalent of five (5) years of acceptable experience. Six (6) months of acceptable experience will be credited for each year of relevant education.

3. Education and/or Experience equivalent to 1 or 2 above. However, all candidates must have three (3) years of fill-time satisfactory experience as an auto mechanic acquired within the last ten (10) years.

NOTE: Possession of a Class B Commercial Driver License (CDL) valid in the State of New York. There may be certain age requirements to obtain this license. Employees must maintain the Class B Commercial Driver License during their employment. Eligible with a CDL Learner's Permit may be appointed subject to the receipt of a New York State Class B Commercial Driver License within six (6) months of appointment.
