General Duties:

Performs teaching and related faculty functions in area(s) of expertise as noted below. 

Campus Specific Information:

The Chemistry Department at Queensborough Community College of the City University of New York (CUNY) is accepting applications for a tenure-track faculty member at the rank of Lecturer with expertise in any field of Chemistry to begin in the spring 2013 semester.  The successful candidate will teach lectures and labs in various General Chemistry courses, Chemistry and the Arts, and possibly Organic Chemistry.  In addition, faculty are expected to  provide academic advisement and assistance to students during the semester and as part of the registration process; and to participate in Departmental and College activities including committees, curriculum development, and assessment.  The successful candidate may be required to teach some evening and/or weekend classes.  Summer teaching is available.

We offer Associate Degrees in Liberal Arts and Sciences, a Dual/Joint A.S. degree in Science for Forensics (Queensborough)/B.S. in Forensic Science (John Jay College of Criminal Justice), as well as a Dual/Joint A.S. degree in Chemistry/B.S. in Pharmaceutical Sciences between Queensborough and York College. The Chemistry Department has up to date laboratory facilities for faculty-student research, including two instrumentation labs [90MHz FT-NMR, GC-MS, HPLC, Radial Chromatography (Chromatotron), UV-Vis Spectrometer, FT-IR Spectrometer, Elemental Analyzer (CHNS), SEM, X-ray fluorescence Spectrometer, Polarimeter, Microwave Reactor, Flash Chromatography System], as well as four teaching labs.  Our research students routinely make oral and poster presentations at local, regional, and national ACS conferences.

Minimum Qualifications:

A Bachelor's degree area(s) of expertise and other qualifications noted below as being necessary for satisfactory performance of job duties.  Also required is the ability to teach successfully. 

Other Qualifications:

Master's degree in Chemistry required.  Teaching experience and the ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution are required.  Demonstrated experience teaching general chemistry lectures and labs, using educational technology, and working with diverse populations preferred. 

Compensation:

Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
