General Duties:

Coordinates financial matters for a program or department under management direction.

 - Maintains financial accounts for income and spending; administers the allocation of funds

 - Analyzes spending, income trends and usage to recommend improvements

 - Manages the collection of revenue and accounts receivable

 - Tracks and maintains financial data to provide fiscal reports to management; produces forecasting projections 

- Monitors the financial condition of operating centers to ensure efficient use of resources

 - Performs ad hoc reporting and analysis as necessary

 - May supervise subordinate staff

 - Performs related duties as assigned.

 

Job Title Name: Finance Specialist 

 

Campus Specific Information:

Reporting to the Director of Accounting and Related Entities, the Finance Specialist will oversee the accounting operations for all revenue associated with Tuition and Fees and Adult & Continuing Education Programs (ACE). Other responsibilities entail overseeing the tax-levy accounting operations as follows:

- Ensuring that all Governmental Accounting Standards Board and Financial Accounting Standards Board rules and procedures are observed with regard to transaction processing, recording, and reporting.

- Reconciliation of all student account balances and general ledger interfaces from the CUNYfirst Student Financials Module

- Analyzing cash flow from revenue sources and ensuring that all fees and non-tax levy funds are reconciled and paid to appropriate entities on a timely basis.

- Supervising the revenue accounting operations staff as required.

- Preparing financial statements and financial analyses for management.

- Ensuring compliance with established internal control policies and procedures for revenue and accounting. 

 

 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 

 Bachelor's Degree and four years' related experience required. 

 

 OTHER QUALIFICATIONS 

 - Ability to perform high level analysis in accounting and computer applications in an educational institution

- Experience in forecasting and budgeting revenue

- Proficiency in computer software and accounting analysis

- Proficiency in CUNYfirst preferred

- Detailed oriented and able to multitask

- Demonstrated experience operating in a team environment as well as excellent verbal, written, interpersonal, and organizational skills

Compensation:

Commensurate with experience and qualifications.
