Faculty Vacancy Announcement:

Performs teaching, research and guidance duties in area(s) of expertise.  Shares responsibility for committee and department assignments including administrative, supervisory, and other functions.

We are seeking highly motivated candidates with a PhD in Biology and a background in public health. The candidate will teach courses in Anatomy & Physiology, General Biology, and/or Microbiology, both lecture and lab. Contractual teaching load is 27 contact hours for the academic year (typically 4 to 5 course sections per semester); summer optional.  Some evening or weekend teaching may be required.  New faculty receives reassigned time to pursue scholarship.

The candidate must have a strong commitment to teaching and to science, and be willing to mentor undergraduate students, providing academic support and advisement.  The successful candidate will participate in departmental and college activities including committees, course and program assessment, curriculum development, and preparation of grants.  Faculty will be required to demonstrate scholarly activities for tenure and promotion. Position to start Spring 2015 semester.

The Biological Sciences and Geology Department offers programs of study in Health Sciences, Pre-Professional Studies, Pre-Nursing Curriculum, Medical Office Assistance, Geology, and required biology courses in Massage Therapy.  The department's facilities include 15 state-of-the art laboratories with multi-media projection equipment, as well as two laboratories dedicated to research.  The department provides opportunities for growth, improvements in pedagogy, and research.  For more information, please see the department's website at


Ph.D. degree or equivalent doctoral degree in Biology or related disciplines from a regionally accredited institution is required. Required qualifications include college level teaching experience in Biological Sciences, with a preference for community college teaching experience.

Additional preferred qualifications include:  1) scholarship and research experience in Biology; 2) experience working or teaching in Public Health; 3) research interests in teaching/learning innovation; 4) experience with student-centered and high-impact pedagogy (see; 5) experience using instructional technology; 6) experience with course and/or program assessment; and 7) experience teaching diverse college student populations. 


Salary commensurate with experience.
