"Triple Play" Medical Career Pathways Program

We are proudly launching the "Triple Play" MEDICAL CAREER PATHWAYS program to accommodate your learning needs and career options. These programs will provide students the opportunity to learn and practice the day-to-day clinical and business operations as an entry into the broader field of Healthcare. The Triple Play program allows students to choose either Certified Billing and Coding Specialist (CBCS),  Certified Clinical  Medical  Assistant  (CCMA) or Medical Scribe . Our two certified programs (CBCS & CCMA) will confer a National Health Career Association (NHA) Certification credential upon passage of a certification exam which will be proctored on-site at QCC. The Medical Scribe program will confer a QCC Certification of completion. All programs begin with two core courses and add specialization courses for that medical career pathway.

The Certified Billing and Coding Specialist (CBCS)

The Certified Billing and Coding Specialist (CBCS) (173.75 hours) is a 6-course program starting with Medical Terminology & Body Systems, which is the language used in the medical profession, and navigation of an Electronic Health Record (EHR), and regulations that govern the practice of medicine. The course work is rounded out with CPT, ICD, and Medical Practice Management; including insurance industry terminology and the knowledge of how to correctly code and bill for services rendered using practice management software. The focus of this medical career pathway is the financial health of the enterprise or revenue cycle management. The recommended concurrent schedule of courses is listed below. The computer readiness can be taken during any semester.

The Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA)

The Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) (325.75 hours) is a 7-course program starting with Medical Terminology & Body Systems and Electronic Health Record (EHR). The course work is rounded out with EKG, Phlebotomy and Clinical /Administrative Management which includes clinical patient interaction procedures and related administrative legal, ethical and regulatory compliance practices and standards. The focus of this medical career pathway is clinical patient interaction and care team support.

The Medical Scribe

The Medical Scribe (116-175.75 hours) (pending status Computer Skills/Keyboarding course) (launching Fall 2020) program is a 6-course program, starting with Medical Terminology & Body Systems and Electronic Health Record (EHR). The course work is rounded out with Introduction to Pharmacology, Computer Readiness, Keyboarding , and finally Real-Time transcription, where the focus will be on recording clinical data while the provider interacts with the patient. The Medical Scribe track requires that an online assessment displaying proficiency in typing speed and accuracy.

Note: Potential/Prospective Registrant would have to take the Computer Skills/Keyboarding course in MS Word and successfully exhibit skills, or opt for one of the other Career Pathway tracks offered. This medical career pathway is part of the provider support team.
