MOTORCYCLE BASIC RIDER COURSE FOR BEGINNERS
The Basic Rider Course (BRC) was developed by the Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) as a complete riding program for the beginner rider. The course consists of 7 hours of interactive classroom learning and at least 11 hours of hands-on riding instruction. The 2-1/2 day course provides basic riding skills to minimize risk. In the classroom, learn about the different types of motorcycles and how they operate, what to wear for comfort and protection, how to develop a riding strategy for dealing with traffic and road hazards, and the effect of alcohol and other drugs on your ability to ride safely. The BRC's riding exercises cover straight-line riding, shifting, braking, cornering and swerving techniques and motorcycle dynamics. Trama's Auto School Inc. provides motorcycles, helmets, eye protection and course materials. You need to provide your own riding gear: sturdy, low-heeled over-the-ankle footwear, jacket, long pants, full-fingered gloves, and, if necessary, raingear. Prerequisite: You must be at least 16 years of age to participate. Participants under the age of 18 will be required to have their parent or guardian's notarized signature on their MANYS application. The ability to ride a bicycle is a requirement for admission to the BRC.
ENGLISH FOR ACADEMIC & PROFESSIONAL PURPOSES
This class will give advanced ESL students the opportunity to develop reading and writing skills necessary for college courses and careers. Topics will include: improving vocabulary, making inferences, and developing essays. Course will include both classroom (2 hours) and computer instruction (1 hour). Recommended: Registrants are advanced English learners, have strong listening and speaking skills, and are able to write a paragraph in English with few errors.

ESL BRIDGE TO GED
This course is designed to prepare English Language learners to take the GED course. Emphasis will be on the preparation for the Humanities component (History, Science, English Literature, Grammar, Writing) of the GED Test. There will be extra instruction on English language skills. This course is also recommended for students who may already have a high school diploma or GED but who need to develop more of their academic English language skills. Offered at the Flushing site. FOREIGN ACCENT REDUCTION - INTRO
You read and write English well; your vocabulary and grammar are good, but people still have a hard time understanding you when you speak. Learn the sounds of English and certain stress and intonation patterns to change pronunciation. Designed for students with a good command of the English language who are at least at the Intermediate ESL Level. Please Purchase Required Text/Audio CD Package, Pronouncing American English, 3rd Edition, by Gertrude F. Orion, available at the QCC Bookstore.
TESTING & PLACEMENT for ALL GE D STU DENTS: Registrants must take the Placement Test to determine their readiness for a GED course. Students will either be placed into a Pre-GED or GED level class based on the results of this test. You will receive notification of your class assignment. The Pre-GE D course prepares students with the basic skills needed to qualify for the GED course. The GE D course prepares adults to take the High School Equivalency Exam. Our highly qualified instructors will review and focus on the major subject areas of the test encompassing Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Reading and Writing and provide in-class training for test-taking and time management strategies.
Prerequisite for the GED course: Minimum score on the placement test. Students with below the minimum score will be placed into a Pre-GED section. To qualify to take the GED exam, students must be either at least 19 years of age OR 18 years of age and their high school class must have already graduated before the date the GED exam is taken.
