Computer Engineering Technology Program

Description: The Biomedical Engineering Department at Long Island Jewish Medical Center in New Hyde Park, NY, is a growing healthcare services operation. Desired candidates will be technically competent as well as service oriented. Must have ability to organize work, perform tasks on time, troubleshoot, work as part of an agile team and follow through providing the internal customer and patients with superior service. Prior experience and demonstrated skill in Computer and Engineering technology will also be helpful in being successful in this job. Under relatively close supervision of the Manager and other senior technicians, you will inspect, repair, maintain, and calibrate all types of basic clinical equipment, devices, systems, and instruments. Interact on a routine basis with other clinical health providers in the identification of technology-based problems and solution development. Participate in on-the-job training programs regarding technical, administrative, and customer service requirements. The Junior Biomedical Engineering Specialist will work toward status of a Biomedical Engineering Specialist by attaining ability to independently complete all assigned tasks and acquire competency on a broader range of more sophisticated clinical devices and systems.

Special Skills & Requirements • Associates degree in a technical/electronics field or equivalent military training required • Complex computer skills including the ability to interpret error codes, defragment hard-drives, replace power supplies and install drivers • Ability to integrate information from a variety of sources • Frequently required to reach, pull, and/or employ fine motor skills during the installation, servicing, and maintenance of medical equipment • Frequently required to bend, crouch, kneel, climb, balance, or otherwise maneuver body while servicing and/or inspecting medical equipment • Frequently required to operate tools/machinery that use hand and/or foot controls (drills, saws, electronic test equipment, etc.) when servicing medical equipment • Frequently required to lift, carry, or otherwise move up to 50 lbs while working with medical equipment • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills • Strong written and verbal communication skills • Valid drivers license required; variable travel requirements depending on primary site that may require use of personal vehicle
