17 Years of Helping Students Achieve
Career Pathways Consortium of Queens, formerly The Tech-Prep Consortium of Queens, has been in operation since 1993. Its basis of operation is an articulation and institutional agreement among the NYC Department of Education, Regional High Schools, and the President of Queensborough Community College.www.qcc.cuny.edu/.
Career Pathways Continued Success
The program offers career programs in various fields, chiefly in career and technical areas. This program has been very successful in assisting students in articulating to postsecondary education, increasing knowledge of growing employment areas through career development activities, and providing opportunities for students to earn college credit. The program hosts various professional development opportunities for teachers at both a regional and statewide level. Professional development is focused on creating plans of study, improving curricula, and providing career development. The project team will work with both students entering the high school from middle school and students leaving high school to advance to postsecondary education.
Reaching Your Potential is Our Goal
We also assist them in navigating the college application, financial aide and acquaint them with the college's freshman academies. The consortium is made up of regional high schools, community college, four-year schools, community-based organizations, and business partners. Our orientation program held at QCC includes students completing a career assessment exercise, a workplace skills assessment, completing a writing exercise, tour of the campus facilities and program information.
Keeping Our Curriculums Current
The Planning and Advisory Board is made up of representatives from each of our high schools, college faculty and administrators. We meet once a month to plan activities, submit forms and data, discuss issues concerning our business partners and review course content. Our dedicated education professionals monitor the pulse of industry to ensure that our graduates, not only enter a career as a viable employee, but also become leaders in their respective industries.
