The Queensborough Community College Student Affiliates of the American Chemical Society Cordially Invites You To: The Long Island Subsection of the NY-ACS Holiday Seminar & Dinner with Guest Speaker: Dr. Jon Friedrich, Department of Chemistry, Fordham University, Bronx, New York & Department of Earth & Planetary Sciences, American Museum of Natural History. Title of Talk: "Investigating the Impact Processing of Asteroids Using Quantitative Three-Dimensional Petrography of Ordinary Chondrites." Synopsis: The 3D imaging technique x-ray microtomography allows for the internal examination of materials at resolutions of up to about 1 micron/voxel (a voxel is a 3D pixel or volume element). Some background of the technique will be presented. Several quantitative applications of this 3D technique will be discussed, including, investigations into the porosity and degree of compaction of primitive meteorites. These investigations inform up about the impact history of a meteorite's asteroidal parent body. All are welcome!
