Description:
Physics Department & Women In Science Club Presents: Brown Bag Lunch Seminar Series - "Everything The Sound Touches: Hot Topics In Acoustics Research" by Dr. Kimberly Riegel Synopsis: Acoustics touches our lives in so many ways that we don't even realize. It is often not until you have a problem that people even start thinking about it. Even then, the obvious problems of noisy neighbors, concert spaces, or speaker design are just the tip of the iceberg. Did you know that sound can make helicopters fall out of the sky, create bubbles in water, or diagnose issues before a baby is born! I will discuss the areas of research that involve acoustics including, outlining some of my previous and current research topics. This series will highlight Physics research being done at QCC and the greater New York area. It is a great opportunity to learn about current topics in Physics, meet the Professors conducting research, and learn about opportunities to participate in research. Please bring your lunch! We will supply drinks and snacks. This event is co-sponsored by the Environmental Sustainability Club, Biology Club, STEM Research Club, Phi Theta Kappa, Foreign Language Society, Students' Health Club, Motor Club, SACNAS QCC Chapter, Chemistry Club, International Student Association, Math Club, Science Research Alliance, Haitian Club, Muslim Student Association, Korean Student Association, QCC Student Affiliates of the American Chemical Society, Asian Society, Military Student Veterans Association, ASAP Club
