Town Hall: A Call to Action: Know the Options on Student Debt

Start Date: June 13 2012 - 05:30 PM

End Date: June 13 2012 - 08:00 PM

Category: Community

Location: York College Faculty Dining Room, 94-20 Guy R. Brewer Boulevard Jamaica, NY

Congressman Gregory W. Meeks (6th District) is hosting a Town Hall meeting to discuss steps that would keep interest rates low on need-based student loans for students and professionals in Queens, and for more than seven million students across the country.

The threat of need-based student loan interest rates doubling in July and raising tuition rates means that students currently enrolled in a 4-year public college will see their debt increase significantly before they are even able to land their first job.

This Town Hall will provide the opportunity for current and former students of Queensborough Community College to meet individually with representatives from the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, U.S. Department of Education, Manhattan/Queens Legal Services' Consumer Law Division, and loan service providers to obtain financial and judicial assistance with their current loans.

The Town Hall is free and open to the public. Register here, or call the Office of Congressman Meeks at (718) 725-6000.
